So many of you have asked about Ahmed and his family following our post in 2021 describing the heart wrenching situation the family had found themselves in having fled their home to protect his younger sister from an arranged marriage.
Ahmed was working 20 hours a week to feed his brother, sister and Mum whilst studying for his A levels and taking responsibility for the running of the home as his Mum could not speak, read or write English. The situation had become so dire that he had sold his bed for £20 to buy food for the family and was sleeping on an old, uncomfortable sofa.
One of our fabulous supporters got in touch to fund a bed and with the additional support of a local business we were able to provide a laptop to enable Ahmed to access A level coursework online.
Today, our Child and Family Worker partner told us that the family are doing really well, the children are now aged 11, 17 and 19 and thriving at school and in work. Although there are still financial challenges he told us that Ahmed has a place at university to start in September and his sister has just completed her first year of A levels and is looking forward to going to university to study dentistry. We couldn’t be more thrilled to hear this and want to thank each and everyone of you who supports the Link Foundation and makes a huge to families like this.
